Trip in Australia: how to save money?

Traveling to Australia is not a cheap trip. I’m one of those convivial travelers who do not need so much money to travel, there are so many ways to arrange and save. But especially if you are traveling alone is not easy on such a vast continent. Unless you plan on hitchhiking, camping for the duration of your trip, and not doing any kind of activity, you will have to bear in mind the expenses you can hardly avoid.

If you are lucky and able to find fellow travelers from time to time or for the duration, then you will save more than the undersigned who traveled a lot by train. It has to be said that the price of gasoline is not low, and the distances are high so even filling a car will cost you more than another trip. For example, the only organized tour to which I was assigned to visit Uluru and the Red Center, the Rock Tour, I paid almost $ 500 for 4 days all inclusive (2 night hostel in Alice Springs, 2 nights camping, entrance Park, meals) and talking to some friends who did the same ride in the car told me that they spent more or less the same amount!

If you want to see the coral reef, you can try to economize by not diving or choosing smaller companies that maybe make discounts, but you have to count from $ 130 to $ 150 for a day of snorkeling (good value for money). Remember, however, to compare whenever possible the offers offered by the hostel with those of the various local operators in the area, because it is not always possible to book a hostel package: for example, for my excursion to Rottnest Island I decided to trust the figure proposed by the hostel Because it more or less corresponded to the prices found on the web, but I found that my travel companion of that day buying it directly from the shipping company spared more than me!

With regard to accommodation and meals, of course, the cheapest option is to sleep in a hostel and prepare meals in the common kitchen, a great way to breathe the wallet and make friends. Australia is famous for its unique landscapes in the world and for infinite spaces, not for a culinary tradition to be discovered, so take advantage of this lack of trust in your culinary skills and various markets, and if you really want to Eat out, consider that hostels often have conventions/discounts with some area vendors.

My advice is to make the YHA Australia (valid one year) card that will guarantee you discounts on transport (Great Southern Rail, Grayhound, etc.) and for various activities.

But you have to be aware that unless you have a great asset to spend but I doubt if you are reading this post, you will have to make a waiver and understand that you could not see everything, not in Australia, because here any type of tour you want (And in some cases when traveling alone is the only solution) costs so much.

And so you may decide not to see Kangaroo Island beautifully landscaped because you have already seen the main animals of this country and therefore prefer to save for another destination. But everything is relative and subjective, it is up to you to decide if it is worth giving up or not and so much depends on whether this will be your only trip at that time or if, as in the case of the undersigned, this will only be the first of many others.
